Portland

I had the pleasure of visiting Portland, OR last week for OSCON. OSCON is a conference for Open Source software developers. There were a number of excellent sessions. Plus, I had the opportunity to learn more about office buddy Rob. It was a good week, but the air travel was less than stellar. I was supposed to fly out on Sunday. When I arrived at the airport they had canceled the flight. So I flew out the next day. On the return trip, I flew from PDX to DFW and the flight from DFW to HSV was delayed due to weather. We finally got in the air and about 50 miles out of HSV the pilot comes on the air saying a storm has popped up over the airport and we may have to divert to another city for fuel. He circled a few times and was able to land. The neat thing was getting to see a thunderstorm from above. Pretty awesome. When we finally landed at HSV, it was like 9:45 and the airport was pretty empty. As I walked out past security, the TSA guys were sitting there playing a first-person shooter game on the computer. I wanted to take a picture, but suspect I would have been arrested. :-)

The next day, Saturday, was the American Budo Society Seminar. I did the video taping and photos, so I did not get to participate, but saw some interesting techniques. Looking forward to working them into my training. See the photos.
