Pooped

Posted on June 28, 2005

Well, I’m here at the TBC parking lot waiting for Emily and the other youth to get back from a shopping trip to Opry Mills. And yes, she took her own money.

I’m pooped because I started running Monday morning. Then karate today at lunch and this evening. We sparred most of tonight which saps most of me energy. Plus I’m not very good so I take a lot of shots, and walk into even more.

I may take a rest tomorrow. Finish up the TBC computer upgrades then call Stan about this DNS issue that Greg and I are chasing.

Jerry signed up for the Disney half-marathon today. Now we start bugging Greg and Russ. Join the nightmare.

Ah, the bus just arrived. I love my Treo. I’m hungry now…

Purple

I promoted to purple belt last night in spite of completing messing up my fighting katas. I honestly don’t know what I was doing. Oh well, at least I made the rest of the group look good. :-) I also continued my tradition of bleeding on people. This time it was a jammed finger nail. The toe nail from the last belt promotion is about to come off, with the new one about half grown in. And Carol wonders why I enjoy doing this. Congrats to Jerry to promote to orange and the rest of the gang: Teresa, Mary, Mariam, John, Stephen, Rob, and Dave. Russ and Suzy may test in the next week or so.

Have you ever noticed how belt colors are the opposite of bruise colors? Belts go yellow - green - purple - black, and bruises the other way. Hmmmm…..

Shannon just left to head back to NC. Hope she enjoyed herself during her visit. I’m trying to convince her to move here. I thought the fact that we have a CVS on every corner would woo her, but no such luck.

Well, I’ve got to put the mower back together and attack the lawn.

What have I done?

Remember those words from Anakin Skywalker in Episode III? I just uttered the same words as I completed the sign-up for the Disney Half-Marathon. This half-marathon is a side-product of my need to start running. Karate and the approaching Continental Divide crossing, along with my lack of endurance and lung power, have caused me to start thinking these crazy thoughts.

As I was going through the registration process I came across this statement:

Anyone not able to maintain a 16-minute per mile pace will be picked up and transported to the finish.

If I’m doing the 16 minute pace or better, I wonder if I can still get a ride with these guys.

And that crazy Jim guy. If you run both the half and full marathon, you get a Goofy medal. How appropriate is that?
